I am still doing the Journalism course and now I start another PhD course, this time, Information Retrieval.

It is a much shorter course, which grants only about 3 credits, but it is proving very useful to learn how to assess the quality of different journals. The quality, that is, according to a huge machinery that is the academic publishing industry. I am particularly unhappy about the fact that some journals count for nothing because they are not indexed. This makes publishing in alternative or niche journals almost useless.

Anyway, I have lots to learn…hopefully not everything will be this depressing.
